Brian P. Downey’s trial and appellate practice focuses on the areas of commercial litigation, criminal defense (general and white collar), disputes relating to the rights and duties of corporate officers, directors, employees and shareholders, severance agreements, condominium law, labor and employment litigation and consultation, and professional negligence and discipline. In addition to his extensive civil and criminal trial practice, Brian has also argued before the Third, Seventh, and Eighth District Courts of Appeal in Ohio, and has twice argued before the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Brian has extensive experience in representing individuals and corporations in civil and criminal proceedings and investigations in municipal, state and federal courts in Ohio. Brian has also represented clients in proceedings before the Ohio State Medical Board, the Ohio Supreme Court Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline, and the National Labor Relations Board. He regularly acts as pool counsel to employees of entities involved in criminal and regulatory investigations.
Brian is admitted to practice in Ohio, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio. Mr. Downey received his B.S.B.A. degree, cum laude, from the University of Dayton (1986), and his J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from The Cleveland-Marshall College of Law (1989). He is a member of the Ohio and Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Associations, the William K. Thomas Inn of Court, and a Life Member of the Judicial Conference for the Eighth Judicial District of Ohio. Mr. Downey is also a part-time magistrate in the Bedford Municipal Court.
